Back to School

I have been throwing around the idea of going back to school for about 3 months now. I have always wanted to get my “MSN” (Masters of Science in Nursing) but didn’t know the right time to start. Some people jump right into a program right after nursing school thinking they know what nursing is and it is the career they want. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS I waited. I thought I wanted to be a nurse practitioner right after nursing school but now know I would hate that job! I like being a nurse and interacting with patients directly. I love my job at Huntsman and am so grateful I took a leap of faith on this job.
I started researching graduate programs and found that the majority of local programs required 3 full days of school per week. This type of program would not work for me. I need to continue working full time to pay my bills and support my love of fashion! After crossing off programs such as the U, Westminster and Weber I had no choice but to look into online programs. I have always been weary of online programs. Are these programs legit, am I taking the easy way out or simply paying for a degree? I knew some people that attended Western Governors University for their bachelor degree so I started looking in to their programs. I talked to numerous enrollment counselors, filled out my FAFSA and felt this program was right for me and my lifestyle. I can go at my own pace, the price is reasonable (about $4000 for 6 months) and the convenience of online study really appealed to me.  After going through what I thought was a fairly rigorous application process I was accepted into the Masters of Science in Nursing: Leadership and Management program.  I have one more interview to complete and should be ready to start on June 1, 2012.
I am nervous, anxious and excited to go back to school. I am going to reward myself with an iPad as a congratulatory step in furthering my education. I look forward to continue my boring life of 2 jobs and endless time to shop, watch TV and be with friends and family. Because things are about to get crazy in June with starting school and working 2 jobs! I am hoping to take 15 credits a term which will allow me to finish my degree in a year. Hopefully, at this time next year I will be weeks from getting my masters.
